Your Creativity Matters

Working in the media and marketing industry over the last decade has taught me a lot about business, but more interestingly, about people.

I’ve come across many different types of characters and on the other hand, some very common and typical patterns of attitudes and behaviours.

One such pattern is thinking about creativity as something that only certain people are born with, i.e. you either have it, or you don’t.

Indeed, we are all naturally gifted in different ways, and some of us are more creative in the sense that our passions are aligned with activities that amplify artistic expression such as music, painting, dance, crafts, photography and so on.

However the unfortunate misconception is that one cannot learn to develop creative skills.

Here at The Mentorship, we believe that everyone has the potential to be creative.

By definition, creativity is simply this:

creativity

noun

1. the use of imagination or original ideas to create something; inventiveness.

Hence, the one thing that determines any perceived creativity is this use of our imagination and ideas. We all have ideas, we all have goals to work towards and we all have problems to solve.

It is our ability to harness our thoughts and transform them into actions that unleashes our creativity.

It always surprised and mostly disappointed me when my colleagues would say things like, “I can’t do that, I’m just not creative enough” or “I wish I was more creative like you.” I could not fathom how people working in a highly creative industry such as marketing, would limit themselves to this kind of thinking!

I soon realised that this self-diagnosed ‘inability’ to be creative is more so a result of a lack of willingness and courage to think big and beyond the pragmatic. People who live creatively are those more inclined to take risks in order to grow and achieve their dreams – are you one of these people?

It is our ability to harness our thoughts and transform them into actions that unleashes our creativity.

Do you want to be one of these people?

The thing is, the world really needs you to be.

Humanity thrives on artistic expression and soulful purpose – we need to evolve mentally, emotionally and spiritually, just as we do physically. Creative thinking and living makes it possible for us to engineer new technologies, find new cures for diseases, fight global poverty and strive for social justice.

By learning to harness your creative mindset alongside the tools and resources at your disposal, you empower yourself and your community to take action and make a difference.

The Mentorship is passionate about providing young people a platform from which to launch their creativity, where there is collective learning, encouragement and support.

What you choose to do with your resources reflects the power of your creativity – make your work matter, because it really does.

I love connecting with like-minded creative people and believe that collectively, we can use our skills to drive prosperity and goodness in our communities and beyond.
